United Way Campaign Chair Bill Hakkinen, a Pfizer Retiree, announced the exciting results of this year’s United Way campaign for Southeastern Connecticut on December 14th. More than 200 campaign supporters, agency representatives, and volunteers gathered to learn that the campaign raised $8,190,000. That money will be invested locally in 83 health and human service programs that help nearly 150,000 people in need throughout the year.

Among the event highlights was Electric Boat/Electric Boat Employee Community Service Association receiving United Way’s most prestigious honor, the Chairman’s Award of Excellence. This award recognizes one company that stands out in several areas of excellence when running a United Way campaign including volunteerism, CEO support, year-round communication and education, and overall employee giving. The company has received this prestigious honor three times previously in 2002, 2003, and 2005.

Other companies and organizations received Chairman’s Awards for specific areas of excellence including Pfizer Inc, Dominion Nuclear Connecticut, Citizens Bank, UPS & Teamsters Local 493, New London County Mutual Insurance, and Chelsea Groton Bank. The Chairman’s Award Series recognizes companies and organizations of all sizes, based on number of employees, that excel in their efforts to raise funds for the community.
