Gorin's Cooperative Furniture Bank

Our UWSECT partnership with Gorin's Furniture, a family owned business since 1936strengthens home environments in our community by distributing essential furnishings to those in need. The Furniture Bank collects good quality, gently used furniture such as bed frames, dressers, bureaus, dinette sets, couches, chairs and coffee tables. Eligible individuals then go through a pre-screening process at one of our UWSECT participating partner programs in order to get a delivery of requested items. Those typically in need of such assistance include victims of disaster, heads of households with children escaping domestic violence, previously homeless people leaving shelters and transitional housing, as well as families simply struggling to stay above the poverty line. For program details and donation guidelines please refer to the attached Furnishing Hope PDF

FamilyWize Rx Discount Cards

FamilyWize Prescription Drug Discount Cards are distributed by UWSECT to selected partner programs for distribution to clients who do not have prescription drug coverage. These cards are similiar to insurance in that they are shown to a pharmacist who then offers a discount which helps clients better afford their prescription medications. Up to $29.99 can be saved on just one prescription. The card is good for several years and an entire family can use it, even if members have different last names.

To be mailed a card call or email Liz Chase at UWSECT-- (860) 464-3320
•To learn more about the program and where cards can be used visit the
FamilyWize website.

Individual Development Accounts (IDAs) with Liberty Bank

The Connecticut IDA program is an initiative of the CT Department of Labor which strengthens families and communities by facilitating self-sufficiency and economic stability through financial education and asset development. Our UWSECT-Liberty Bank partnership features a special interest bearing savings account which offers a dollar-to-dollar match up to $1000 by each Liberty Bank and UWSECT to assist low income families saving to buy a first home. Participants must meet with a case manager, make regular contributions to the account and complete courses on topics such as setting up a budget and understanding the mortgage process.
